AECI Mining Explosives played a key role in driving AECI’s CSI Employee Volunteerism Campaign. At the latter part of 2017, we successfully kicked off AECI’s CSI Employee Volunteerism Campaign called “Bare Foot No More”, at all sites nationally. Key campaign communication packs were distributed to inform and encourage employees to donate towards this worthy cause ensuring that under privileged children in rural areas where we operate, were equipped with school shoes.
What does the “Bare Foot No More” campaign entail?
AECI has partnered with “Barefoot No More” an organisation that has developed a unique school shoe for children especially in rural areas.
Learners from schools that have been identified, from the areas where we operate, will benefit from this campaign.
The “Bare Foot No More” kit is made up of an AECI branded bag containing the special pair of school shoes, underwear and stationery.
The unique patent-pending school shoes are manufactured in South Africa out of an innovative material and are fully recyclable, durable and designed for extra comfort.
“AECI Mining Explosives is proud to announce that we had a great response to AECI’s CSI Employee Volunteerism Campaign called “Bare Foot No More”. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to you for your kind contribution which will impact the lives of the recipients. In total 153 employees collectively contributed R39820.” stated Thabo Nkoane, AECI Mining Explosives Executive: Human Capital.
At the beginning of the 2018 school year, we distributed the sponsored kits to learners at schools in Kathu (Sishen), Northern Cape; Venetia, Limpopo; Emalahleni, Mpumalanga and Klerksdorp, North West.
The Bare Foot No More campaign was recorded as being the most successful of AECI’s annual campaigns and proved
that the AECI Group’s employees have big hearts and a true spirit of giving. A group total of R584 300 was donated, R74368 from employees and R371470 from the companies. The AECI CSI Committee approved an additional amount of R138462 to ensure that, at the selected schools, all learners were able to receive school shoes, a set of underwear and stationery for the 2018 academic year. The donations impacted the lives of 3 895 learners. Thank you to the EE Committee Chairpersons, Human Capital Business Partners, and Co- ordinators and employees for driving this campaign in their respective businesses.
The Company is in the process of raising funds for BFNM kits to be handed over to schools in Q1 2019.
